Volunteering

Without our volunteers Seven-0-Seven Operations would not exist

Mission

If you’d like to meet new friends, have fun and learn some new skills all while helping build Seven-0-Seven Operations – there is always something happening – and always the need for an extra pair of hands to help out. Seven-0-Seven Operations’ workshops are located in part of the heritage railway workshops located at Newport.

We rely almost entirely on volunteers and are always looking for new team members for the variety of different roles required to run our operations. Listed below are some of the rewarding positions we need to fill.

Whether you have an interest in trains or not, we can most likely find something for you to help with! If you have particular skills, experience or interested by all means let us know. We look forward to having you on the team.

Michael

“It gives me the change to learn useful skills."

Judith

"I love meeting new people, the rattle of the train and running the dining car."

Kim

“It's my opportunity to share my skills and experience from a career on the railways with new people.”

Getting involved

It doesn't matter what you do or have done in your day job, we need and can use your assistance. Everything from skilled engineering to clerical, gardening and cleaning tasks need to be done and in most cases no previous railway experience is required. In any case, you can soon gain this experience and training along with the satisfaction of being part of it all.

Members who work in our workshops at Newport or as customer marshals or locomotive service crew during mainline trips need to undergo "Working With Children" checks. Members who hold "Working With Children" check cards are classified as "Volunteer Workers".
